<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Vitamin K - is a fat-soluble vitamin which plays an important role in the metabolism of bone and connective tissue, maintenance blood clotting properties. Vitamin K is involved in carboxylation of glutamic acid residues in the polypeptide chains of 14 human proteins, providing them with the necessary functional properties. Lack of vitamin K-dependent carboxylation of these proteins leads to changes in their biological activity. In this literature review we cover the mechanisms of vitamin K-dependent carboxylation and none bone actions of osteocalcin and matrix Gla-protein with different degrees of carboxylation.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>витамин К</kwd><kwd>карбоксилирование</kwd><kwd>остеокальцин</kwd><kwd>матриксный Gla-белок</kwd><kwd>сахарный диабет</kwd><kwd>нарушение толерантности к глюкозе</kwd><kwd>сосудистая кальцификация</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>vitamin K</kwd><kwd>carboxylation</kwd><kwd>osteocalcin</kwd><kwd>matrix Gla-protein</kwd><kwd>diabetes mellitus</kwd><kwd>impaired glucose tolerance</kwd><kwd>vascular calcification</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Ambrogini E, Almeida M, Martin-Millan M, Paik JH, Depinho RA, Han L, Goellner J, Weinstein RS, Jilka RL, O'Brien CA, Manolagas SC.
